The IAAF is the global governing body of the sport of athletics (Track & Field). It is an organization comprised of 214 member federations who are responsible for the development and oversight of the sport, from grassroots to elite competition. Athletics is the the Olympic Games' #1 sport, both in terms of fanbase/audience, as well as the number of athletes and number of countries represented. The IAAF World Championships, which is staged every two years, is the world's third largest sporting event (behind the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup).
